Notes.
None.
Wayfinding & Strategy.
- Autodesk acquired Cadsoft Eagle. This makes a ton of sense and is a real power move.
- Y Combinator is not working on crazy libertarian utopias for techies.
- Research shows that people want autonomous cars to decide based on utilitarian ethics - unless they're personally involved.
- With natural gas down, rigs in the North Sea are shutting down - and wind farms are popping up.
Making & Manufacturing.
- A short video tour of the Nitto (bike components) factory. Love the rotary friction welding on that rack.
- Using softer materials (aluminum/copper) to create lattice structures that absorb more energy.
- On Bosch's modernization.
- A pretty awesome (and massive) solar oven. The video is in French but is totally worth watching.
Distribution & Logistics.
- The MTA is being sued for its lack of ADA compliance at a 6 station in the Bronx. This tradeoff - requiring improvements (in some cases small improvements) to include upgrades for ADA is a hard one.
- A Model S on autopilot hit a truck; the driver died.
Inspection & Testing.
- A good retrospective on a bike clothing brand who struggled to sustain itself due to the complications and costs of running on US manufacturing.
Tangents.
- Taiwanese fire fishing.
- NYC has a floating jail.
- Microbes that live off of raw electrons.
- Anyone know a CM capable of doing assembly of rather complex paper products? If so, check this out and then give a holler.

And.
On the (world's biggest) airplane that Paul Allen's
space company is building.

Love, Spencer.
p.s. - We should be better friends. Send me a note - coffee's on me :)
